Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

seen... Big Night (Stanley Tucci/Campbell Scott, 1995, US). A rare opportunity to see this beautifully acted and moving film about two gorgeous Italian brothers who come to 50s America and set up a restaurant.

At 2.30pm, National Film Theatre, South Bank, pounds 5.75 (pounds 4.35 concs). Box office: 0171 928 3232

been... to the Bristol Old Vic to see Pete Postlethwaite (The Lost World, In the Name of the Father) in Macbeth.

King Street, Bristol, BS1 4ED. 7.30pm. Box Office: 0117 949 4901

heard... about the new Muji; the extra-large London store which opened last Friday to accommodate an increasing number of fans devoted to its simply-chic Japanese style. 187 Oxford Street, W1 (0171 437 7503)

tried... honey and garlic ice-cream (better than you might think) at unique Swedish restaurant, Garlic and Shots. There's no getting away from the potent aroma of garlic in this place where everything goes with it, including the cocktails. Surprisingly good. Just make sure everyone you know eats there too! 14 Frith Street, London W1 (0171 734 9505)
