Sean "Diddy" Combs has opened up about understanding his “thinking had to change” after becoming a single father to six children when his ex partner Kim Porter died.

Last week, the rapper appeared on Naomi Campbell’s YouTube series No Filter With Naomi, where he revealed that he really had to “focus” on the futures of his children with Porter, Quincy, 28, Christian, 22, and twins D'Lila Star and Jessie James, 13, as well as his son Justin, 27, and daughter Chance, 14, from previous relationships.

“Losing Kim and now being a single father to six, my thinking had to change, I had to really get focused on their futures because I know how rough it is out here,” the 50-year-old told the supermodel.

Porter died 15 November 2018 at the age of 47 from “pneumonia-related complications”.

According to Diddy, whose full name is Sean John Combs, he and his family have since started a company called Combs Cartel, which he says will incorporate his children’s projects in the future.

“We’re really focused on our plan after this and taking time to really ask the girls and ask the kids what they want to do,” he said. “We formed a company called Combs Cartel which is our family business and a lot of their projects will go under that.”

The father-of-six also said that the goal is to “change the narrative of the black family” and come out "better and stronger".

Explaining that the family is “excited,” Diddy, who has an estimated net worth of $740m, said: “They’re now part of the family business, they’re now ready to step up and be leaders so it’s really about that.

“What are the goals we’re going to set, what are we going to do to come out of this better and stronger and have more of an impact and change the narrative of the black family and the black man and woman globally you know, as being fearless, as being intelligent, and not taking no shorts - getting what we deserve and doing positive things with our power.”

Diddy, who dated Porter on and off from 1994 to 2007, recently showed his Instagram followers the monument he constructed to his former partner in his backyard during an Instagram Live with Fat Joe.

According to Diddy, he had the rose garden and statue of Porter built three years before she passed.

In January, the business mogul paid tribute to Porter in an Instagram post, where he said: “If you got a good woman please let her know. Tell her as soon as you can. Make sure she knows. Make sure she feels it. HONOUR HER. CHERISH HER.

“Cause the special ones are RARE and FEW. And everyone doesn’t get a second chance. LET THE ONE YOU LOVE KNOW TODAY. RIGHT NOW!!!!”

The record producer concluded the post dedicated to his longtime partner: “I’ll honour you forever.”
