From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Taking to Instagram, Kruger, who welcomed her first child with fellow actor Norman Reedus in November, posted one of the images with her baby’s face blurred out.
The Welcome to Marwen star explained the photos of herself with her baby were leaked without permission and asked for people to respect her family’s privacy.
“Dear fans, dear non fans, dear paparazzi and anyone with a conscience. We were just tagged in these paparazzi pictures of me and our daughter. These pictures were taken without our consent and expose a vulnerable and innocent baby,” Kruger wrote.
“While we understand that some people would like to see a picture of our daughter, we as parents, want nothing more than allow her to grow up in privacy and safety.
“Me and @bigbaldhead would kindly ask you not to repost these pictures and help us achieve that goal.
Kruger concluded: “Whoever has already posted them, please take them down. Please put yourself in our shoes. We are just like any parent wanting the very best for our child. Thank you for your support.
Fans praised Kruger for the request, with many apologising that she had to ask in the first place.
“This is so wrong. I’m so sorry to see your privacy invaded like this. Some people are so far detached from reality and fail to see yourself and @bigbaldhead as anything more than a commodity,” one person wrote.
“Hopefully your post will go some way in educating people into knowing where the line is and to be respectful. This should never have happened to you.”
Another added: “Good for you calling them out. Why can’t they respect people privacy; it doesn’t matter if you are famous or not. Everyone is entitled to privacy.”
Kruger and Reedus have been dating since March 2017 when their relationship was revealed to the world after they were spotted kissing in New York City.
The Walking Dead star is already a father to 18-year-old son Mingus Lucien Reedus with supermodel Helena Christensen, whom he dated for five years before they split in 2003.
