Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Breakups are never easy but when something doesn’t feel right, putting an end to your relationship is often unavoidable.

A split might come as a result of one small thing – for example, bad timing or unacceptable table manners – or because of more serious issues – like wanting different things or infidelity – but chances are if you’re going through a separation, something made you realise you and your partner weren’t meant to be.

While there’s no feasible way to speed up the post-relationship recovery process, the internet has provided an unlikely source of comfort by launching a brand new viral hashtag: #AndThatsWhyYoureMyEx.

An open and non-judgemental space for people to vent their frustrations at ex-partners, the hashtag has prompted a number of social media users to share the reasons they decided to call quits on their relationships.

While some of the stories touch on serious issues such as commitment, cheating and lack of emotional connection, others are more light-hearted, yet nonetheless justifiable.

From bad personal hygiene to poor taste in movies, these are the most hilarious reasons some people chose to break up with their exes.
