Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former Love Island star shared sweet photographs on Instagram of the newborns dressed in pink babygrows and hats with large bows on their heads as they slept.
In the caption, she wrote: “22.05.23 [heart emoji].”
Dyer, 26, and Premier League footballer Bowen, also 26, first announced that they were expecting twins in January.
In a post, she wrote: “We have been keeping a little secret… Out little TWINS. So excited to meet our babies and watch Santi be the best big brother.
“The biggest surprise of our lives but feeling so blessed… Our family is getting a lot bigger and we can’t wait.”
Dyer has an older son, Santiago, who was born in January 2021. She shares him with former partner Sammy Kimmence.
Commenting on the post, Dyer’s father Danny Dyer wrote: “Can’t stop smiling.”
After confirming that she was expecting twins publicly, Dyer shared her family’s response to the news and said that the EastEnders star apparently reacted by saying: “Hold up, are you f***ing joking me?”
The TV presenter told her follower via a Q&A on Instagram Stories that she then said: “Dad, I can’t believe it, they missed it on the scan and now it’s come up as identical twins.”
Danny replied: “WTF. Oh my f***ing god.”
Others who congratulated Dyer on the birth of her twins included fellow ex-Love Islander Molly-Mae Hague, who recently gave birth to her first child, footballers Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham and former Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt.
Earlier this month, Dyer released her E4 documentary Dani Dyer: Is This Anxiety? which explored how her anxiety spiralled after becoming a new mother for the first time with Santiago.
Speaking ahead of the show’s release on 1 May, Dyer said she hoped her experience will “encourage” young women and mothers to speak out if they are having a hard time with their mental health.
“I just feel like, obviously, anxiety, mental health is spoken about but I still feel like there is that stigma around motherhood and how you’re supposed to feel when you become a mum,” she said.
“So I just feel like it was something to talk about and definitely encourage other young women and, obviously, other mums to speak up if they feel like they really need to, and I really hope that sort of comes across like that on the documentary.”
