Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

DADDIOS

@ the crossbar

Not quite recovered from NYE yet? Ease yourself back into the groove at this up-and-coming gig. Big beats, break beats, funkt-up beats and any other kind of beats they can muster up.

Barry Ashworh (Dub Pistols), and Mimi (Xfm) feature on the decks in this intimate and friendly venue.

Thursday, 257 Pentonville Road, Kings Cross N1 (0181-961 5490) 10pm-3am, pounds 2

PULSE

@ club 414

Throbbing techno, ambient house and deep trance is served up thick and fast in this venue. The music has moved on since the early rave days, but the trail-blazing spirit lives on here through 414's diverse clientele. Beamish, Superfast Oz and Darren Shamwala feature on the Technics tonight.

Plenty of kids dress to sweat alongside hardened techno heads and new- age hippies - great vibe, excellent value for money. This gig is a marathon eight-hour shift, so don't make any fixed plans for Sunday.

Tonight, Colharbour Lane, Brixton SW9 (0171-924 9322) 10pm-6am, pounds 4 concessions before midnight/pounds 6 others

FUNKY BUNKER

@ the fridge bar

This soul and funk night plays all the classic rare grooves and Eighties tunes that frequently appear in the modern world of sampling. The crowd is mixed and contributes to a uniquely relaxed vibe.

Things get grimy downstairs in the basement where the only way to move through the thick crowd is to bust a move or two. Arrive before midnight for free entry and your best night out in months.

Fridays, 1 Town Hall Parade, Brixton Hill, London SW2 (0171-326 5100) 10pm-4am, admission free/pounds 3 after midnight

SOUL MOVEMENT

@ the clinic

Promising house music for grown-ups, this gig has built up an impressive reputation over the last six months. The formula is simple enough; soulful garage, smooth house and classic disco with an Atlantic twist.

The vibe is friendly and the DJs keep the dancefloor twirling with a varied mixture of soulful rhythms. Rare grooves rule for a moment, before 1980s funk is given a whirl on the decks. DJs include Alan Russell, Seamus Haji, and US DJ Tony Wilson.

They promise "strictly no speed garage" and they probably refuse to play Gina G too - definitely worth a visit.

Friday, 13 Gerrard Street, Soho (0181-531 7659) 10pm-4am, pounds 6
