Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Flipside at Iceni, 11 Whitehorse Street, W1 London (0171-495 5333). Tonight 10pm-3am, pounds 7 before 10.30pm & members/ pounds 10 after.

Valentine's Day may be over but don't fret if you didn't meet the partner of your dreams. If Cupid's arrows missed their target, then get down to Iceni tonight for Flipside's belated Valentine's party.

Flipside events have a reputation for innovation. Tonight, they boldly attempt to increase your chances of Valentine romance courtesy of the Flipside Dating Service.

Cupid may have some difficulty matching potential lovers inside a nightclub full of flashing lights, so each person will be given a numbered card on entry.

Your mission during the night, should you choose to accept it, is to locate the member of the opposite sex who's got your number.

The first sets of couples to locate their love match will win free bottles of champagne, presumably to lower the resistance of potentially unwilling partners.

If you don't manage to find your match, there will be plenty of additional opportunities to find an alternative valentine. The club looks set to become a veritable tunnel of love, with the film room awash with slushy movies in an attempt to stimulate romance.

Jam and The Earth Brothers control the decks upstairs, while DJ Dodge, DJ Debra and First Priority play the best in hip hop, swing and drum 'n' bass on the lower floors.

The clientele is cosmopolitan and decidedly funky. But there's strictly no attitude on this night of lurve.

EYE ON THE NEW

You lucky ones with Valentine's partners should visit the aptly named Rejoice at Robinski's tonight. Unpretentious house for a young and energetic crowd. Resident DJ Pat Riddell controls the decks.

Rejoice at Robinski's Wallet, 5-7 Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield, Manchester (0161-225 5483) 11pm-2am, pounds 3/pounds 2 NUS.

Meanwhile, Pure Silk offers a brand new night of house and soulful garage at London's Raw Club. The decor here is garish, so dress to be spotted. Resident DJ MC Creed plays the best of past and present for an older crowd, while DJ's freestyle in the small room. Arrive early.

Pure Silk, Raw, 112a Great Russell Street, London WC1 (0171-436 1903) Sat, 10.30pm-5am pounds 10.
