From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris and the entire Beckham family are among the celebrities that joined Thursday evening’s Clap for Our Carers event, which saw millions of people across the country show their gratitude to NHS workers.

Both current and retired NHS employees have been called upon to work on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic, working arduously in order to protect and care for as many people as they can.

In order to demonstrate the public’s appreciation for everything NHS workers are doing throughout the outbreak, a national clapping event was organised in their honour.

Craig was spotted clapping outside his home alongside his wife, actor Rachel Weisz in a video posted on Twitter that featured other James Bond castmembers, including Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw.

Elsewhere, Victoria Beckham shared a video on Instagram featuring David Beckham and their children all taking part in the national clapping event.

“Thank you for all that you do,” the fashion designer wrote.

Other famous faces who took part in the event were Amanda Holden, Gemma Collins and Katie Price, who posted a video on Instagram of herself and her son, Harvey.

“Me and Harvey would like to say a massive thank you to everyone all the social house carers, nurses, doctors, everyone helping at this moment in time,” Price said in the video.

“Harvey gives a massive thank you.”

Holden, meanwhile, shared a Boomerang video of her and her two daughters clapping outside their home on Thursday evening.

“Applauding the #nhs #clapforourcarers,” the caption read.

Holden wrote that the event felt “so emotional”, adding: ”I can hear fireworks and cars beeping!”
