From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Adele has shared a rare photograph of herself getting into the festive spirit on Instagram.

On Monday, the singer posted two black-and-white snaps of herself at a Christmas party she hosted.

In one image, Adele poses alongside somebody dressed in a Grinch costume with a snow-covered London cityscape in the background.

In the second photo, the 31-year-old is pictured in the same setting with a man dressed as Santa Claus.

With her black ruched gown, dark lipstick and curled hair, the singer’s party look evokes classic Hollywood glamour.

“We both tried to ruin Christmas but then both our hearts grew!” Adele wrote in the caption, referencing a famous line from The Grinch.

“Thank you for coming to my party and making us feel like kids Grinch,” the singer added. “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone x”.

Adele’s photograph has already been liked by more than 1.6 million users, with thousands leaving comments.

“Congratulations on a great year, and warm wishes to you and your family throughout the holiday season my friend,” wrote one person.

Another added: “Thank You. Best wishes Queen for You and Your family. Best Christmas time is coming.”

Many fans questioned when the singer would be releasing her next album, the most recent of which, 25, came out in 2015.

Adele split from her husband of three years, Simon Konecki, in April. Just over two weeks later, on Sunday 5 May, the “Rolling in the Deep” singer celebrated her 31st birthday.

To mark the occasion, the star shared a post on Instagram, in which she spoke candidly about the difficulties she experienced during her 30th year.

“30 tried me so hard but I’m owning it and trying my hardest to lean in to it all,” she wrote.

“No matter how long we’re here for life is constant and complicated at times.”
