From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Chrissy Teigen has jokingly defended herself from parent-shaming criticism after sharing a topless photo of herself and her two-year-old son Miles.
On Tuesday, the cookbook author uploaded a photo of herself and her son to Instagram, where she can be seen covering her chest while wearing nothing apart from heels, bracelets, earrings and a high-waisted black undergarment as Miles smiles from in-between her legs.
The photo, which Teigen captioned: “Please move, mommy is trying to be thirsty,” has since divided her more than 34.3m followers, with some of the former model’s fans applauding the honest depiction of motherhood while others have criticised the “inappropriate” photo.
“Haha. Only a mom knows this level of lack of privacy!” one person commented, while another said: “This pic really speaks to me. This is motherhood.”
However, others have accused Teigen of having “no boundaries” with her children, who she shares with husband John Legend.
“Sorry I love ya, but this is inappropriate,” one follower wrote, while someone else commented that the photo is “so disgusting and inappropriate”.

Another person said: “Sorry. Not the most appropriate pic to take with your child.”
The criticism prompted a response from Teigen, who responded to one comment that read: “Wtf... Am I the only one cringing?” by encouraging those upset with the photo to “reply” so that she could block them all.
“Everyone mad can reply here so I can just block you in one area,” the Cravings author wrote.
In another comment, which has been liked more than 22,000 times, Teigen added: “Wait till they find out we take baths together.”
The responses were met with applause from Teigen’s followers, who praised her for standing up for herself, and for teaching her children to be comfortable with their bodies.
“A mom teaching their kids to be proud of their bodies… I see that as good parenting,” one person commented.
Another said: “You birthed them, breastfed them and bathe them but cannot get dressed in front of them?”
Teigen, who regularly finds herself the subject of backlash, is known for defending herself from fan comments. In February, the 35-year-old addressed criticism over a wine anecdote she’d shared on Twitter by pointing out that not everything she shares is going to be “relatable” because it is her life and her stories.
“Hey, not everything I say on my Twitter is going to be relatable to you because it is my life and my Twitter and my stories. I see your tweets, I get your jokes, you are so funny, yes, you really nailed me,” wrote in response to one critic at the time.
