But with great candour comes great trolling, and now the former model has opened up about being a target of online abuse, explaining how being under intense scrutiny in the media has a deep effect on her.
“Much stronger people are like ‘I don’t care what you think,’ ” the mother-of-two told American Vogue.
“I genuinely do care. I think it’s funny when people are like, ‘I love how you just don’t give a f***.’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I give so many f***s.’ I want to be liked.”
The 32-year-old fronts the magazine’s November issue in a photoshoot featuring her two children, Luna and Miles, and her two bulldogs.
Teigen has more than 10 million followers on Twitter and her tweets frequently go viral.
John Legend, who is married to Teigen, believes his wife’s success on the platform is down to her no holds barred approach.
“First of all, she’s funny,” the “All of me” singer told the magazine.
“And she’s candid. I think her candour is what’s so appealing - and makes her distinct from other celebrities people pay attention to. She tells it like it is.”
In a world of “fake news”, you’d think one person who’d appreciate Teigen’s authenticity is President Trump, who has become synonymous with his animosity towards the media.
In fact, Teigen is one of several celebrities to have been blocked on the platform by Trump after she famously tweeted “Lolllllll no one likes you” at him in July 2017.
In the Vogue interview, Teigen reveals her phone screen is set to the official message from Twitter telling her she had been banned from following the President and from viewing his tweets - evidently, it's something she finds rather funny.
Legend tells the magazine he doesn’t understand why his wife has been blocked and he hasn’t.
“I have said as many bad things about him as she has,” he said.
“Maybe it’s because I’m a man; I have no idea.”
