Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Cinderella, Royal Festival Hall, London SE1 (0171-960 4242) 7.30pm

Splendid carriage, princely manners and sumptuous epaulement - but that was the man in the pit. Louise Levene, The Independent's dancing mistress, was quite carried away by Viktor Fedotov, chief conductor of the Kirov Ballet, who brings out all the romantic sweetness and modern menace of Prokofiev's score and conducted with a thrilling urgency. Such vigour and zest almost makes you forget you're in the traditional but less than perfect dance space, the Royal Festival Hall. Nevertheless, the Royal Ballet has done a very good job of recreating David Walker's designs for Ashton's Cinderella. Sylvie Guillem danced the title role on opening night, but tonight sees the first pairing of Viviana Durante and William Trevitt. Durante is a star, but for absolutely no good reason that I can see, Trevitt has yet to be accorded the status he deserves. Maybe his Prince Charming will change all that. David Benedict
