From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A trend that goes by many names, from rainbow and unicorn to kaleidoscope, colourful hair has dominated our Instagram feeds in recent years.
So much so, that the hashtag #rainbowhair currently boasts more than 800,000 posts on the photo sharing site.
And, if Cardi B’s latest hairstyle is anything to go by, the trend for technicolour hues is only going to get more vibrant in 2019.
This weekend, the Bodak Yellow rapper arrived at day three of the Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest in Georgia, Atlanta, wearing a multicoloured wig that reached her hips.
The singer’s locks gradated in colour from pastel pink and lime green to burnt orange and highlighter yellow.
The 26-year-old complimented her rainbow wig with a magenta two-piece that consisted of a jewel encrusted buckle bra and matching hot pants, as well as a fringed leather jacket and Vetements sock boots.
This isn’t the first time Cardi B has sported a unicorn-inspired look. In June 2018, the artist posted a photo of her hair styled in a half-up-half-down top-knot, wearing a white dress and stiletto heels to match her rainbow mane.
Shortly after confirming her split from rapper Offset in December, the star also showcased a waist-length rainbow wig, while just this week she was spotted sporting a lilac beehive highlighted with flecks of pink and blue.
The I Like It rapper recently revealed that her wigs can cost anywhere from $500 (£381) to $800 (£611), depending on where she gets them from, and that's without the styling fee, which she says can cost an additional $200 (£152) to $300 (£229).
Cardi B isn’t the only celebrity that’s opted for a bold colour change. In recent years, everyone from Kendall Jenner and Katy Perry, to Alicia Keys, Rita Ora and Gigi Hadid have all made sure the trend for rainbow tresses cements itself in hair-colour history.
If you’re looking to change up your hair colour with a bold shade, and can’t quite stretch to the exorbitant heights of a Cardi B-style wig, then look to hair specialists Bleach London.
A vegan and cruelty-free brand that started with a one-chair salon at the back of a nail store, Bleach London has reinvigorated the hair colour industry of late, becoming synonymous with trends like ‘blorange’ and leopard print spots.
To satiate your fixation with all things unicorn-inspired, the brand has since bottled its notorious Super Cool Colours with a range of 14 shades including Tangerine Dream, Washed Up Mermaid and Slime Light.
The best part is that the colours are semi-permanent and fade out in two to 10 washes, meaning you can try out a rainbow mane without the colour commitment.
