From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Beyoncé has partnered with at-home fitness company Peloton to launch a series of themed workouts in honour of Homecoming season, an annual celebration for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

HBCUs are higher education establishments in the US that were created before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as a way of primarily serving the African-American community.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of traditional Homecoming celebrations have been virtual this year.

In a bid to add something to the schedule, Beyoncé and Peloton have create a series of themed workouts across multiple fitness categories, including spinning, running, and yoga.

According to Peloton, Beyoncé is the most requested artist among its 3.6 million members.

As part of the collaboration, which is set to last for several years, Peloton and Beyoncé are also gifting two-year Peloton Digital memberships to students at 10 HBCUs.

These include Bennett College, Clark Atlanta University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine, SpelmanCollege, Texas Southern University, and Wilberforce University.

The content will be available to anyone via the Peloton App, which can be downloaded for free for a 30-day trial period, and anyone with a Peloton bike or tread.

In the UK, a Peloton bike can be bought either through one payment of £1,750, or through a series of monthly instalments at £45 per month for 39 months.

"Peloton and I both believe that the power of music can help uplift, motivate and inspire those on their fitness journeys," commented Beyoncé.

"I've been a Peloton member for several years, and I'm excited to partner with a company that helps people, young and old, be the best versions of themselves, in an innovative and adaptable way.

"I'm proud to celebrate the students at HBCUs with this donation, to encourage them to find and embrace their own wellness regimens."

Peloton's head of music, Gwen Bethel Riley, added: "Beyoncé's commitment to empowerment and artistic expression is an inspiration to the entire Peloton community.

"It is a privilege to be able to work closely with her and her extraordinary team to broaden access to our platform and collaborate on incredible offerings we think our members will love."
