UK adults will spend 416 days of their life on average in the bathroom, a poll has suggested.

Researchers found respondents spend the time showering, bathing, moisturising, shaving and even catching up on emails and reading their favourite books.

Men will spend 373 days in their bathroom at home on average – that’s around 23 minutes a day – and women will use them for a total of 456 days – typically for 29 minutes a day, the survey of 2,000 adults found.

Researchers found respondents spend around three months of their lives getting ready for work.

“While it isn’t the biggest room in the house, it’s clear that we still expect our bathrooms to work incredibly hard,” said Christopher Webb, bathroom manager at B&Q, which commissioned the study.

“Our new research shows 30 per cent of us are dissatisfied with how our bathrooms work for us, yet the average Brit hasn’t spruced up their bathroom in five years.

The research also found seven in 10 respondents find sharing a bathroom “frustrating”.

One third said the top annoyance is finding the last of the toilet roll hasn’t been replaced and a fifth can’t stand finding hair left down the plug hole.

Seventeen per cent get frustrated with other members of their household hogging the room.

One in six of admitted to having hidden in the bathroom to get some “peace and quiet”.
