If you’re expecting a new arrival any time soon and want to avoid giving your little one a name that’s going to be big on nursery registers, listen up, because a pregnancy and parenting website has predicted the most popular names of 2018.

A useful guide for parents-to-be who are keen on giving their newborn a name that’s unique, Babygaga has analysed baby name data from the last couple of years to determine which ones are up-and-coming and which ones have fallen out of favour.

While monikers such as Olivia and Harry might have been popular this year, neither appear on Babygaga’s list of predicted baby names for 2018.

Instead, there are some surprising entries among the top 40 for both genders, with the most popular names for girls dominated by a mix of the traditional and modern.

These include Emma, Charlotte, Sadie, Violet and Kennedy, followed by Savannah, Penelope, Victoria, Ellie and Hazel.

Other monikers the website predicts will be on everybody’s lips next year are Natalie, Luna, Rylie, Aurora, Scarlett, Nora, Zoe, Amelia, Harper and Stella.

It’s much the same for the boys list too with old-fashioned names like Jack, Oliver, Theodore, Dylan and Adam making the cut. As well as Alexander, Daniel, Christopher, Joseph, Jasper, Lucas and Isaac.

That being said, there are some more unusual monikers that are predicted to be big in 2018 too including Finn, Atticus, Reuban, Logan, Hunter and Kai.
