Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tomorrow night sees Part 3 of this monthly hip-hop, R'n'B and soul gig. All of the best rap events seem to be hailing from north of the river these days but this gig is pulling them in from across the capital.
Despite the dominance of US artists in the record sales department, Mudlumz events showcase the depth of home-grown UK rapping talent. The Mighty Bury Crew, M.U.D. Family, Sara Jane, UK All-Stars, MC D, Hyperman and 12 Stone all grab the mic. Some of the names may be unfamiliar but their skills will stay in the memory.
The pounds 100 on offer for best freestyle MC and dancers has already produced some memorable encounters, but with camera crews in attendance, competitors had better have something special in mind.
Tomorrow, 210 Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park N4 (0171-344 0044) 7pm-midnight, pounds 6 in advance/more on the door
It's time to discard your knickers once more as the queens of couture (that's Joy and Daniel to you and me) serve up something naughty and nice at their new weekly residency.
After titillating London's clubbing fraternity at Legends and Cafe de Paris, the girls have found one of London's best-kept secrets (the newly refurbished venue formerly known as Circa) to host their Friday-night gigs. Chocolate is small but perfectly formed - it simply looks great.
Fur coats, and a lack of underwear, are thankfully optional but patrons are required to display a modicum of style and grace to gain admittance. Once inside, the vibe is friendly and the beats housey, but not too deep, courtesy of Smokin' Jo and surprise DJs and PAs.
Fridays, 59 Berkeley Square, W1 (0171-624 0999)
Uplifting house and garage anthems will dominate, courtesy of Paul "Trouble" Anderson and guests. MC Pugwash takes the mic, with support from Davey's Home Sound.
A derisory Lady Godiva will grant you admittance to this event, so the place is usually rammed. Split over two floors, HQ's overlooks Camden Lock and attracts some of the capital's coolest cosmopolitan revellers. Eat at the restaurant, chill at one of the bars or bust-a move on the dancefloor.
Wednesdays, The West Yard, Camden Lock, NW1 (0171-485 6044) 9.30pm-2am, pounds 5
In the past, if you were asked to link the words "Vauxhall", "excitement" and "Sundays", you would have been hard pushed to come up with anything, apart from cricket at the Oval. But how times have changed! Twice as Nice is probably the most talked-about weekend gig of all, especially if underground garage is your bag.
The formula is simple enough: phat beatz, a great social vibe and aspirational clientele. Thoughts of work on Monday morning are cast aside: the result is a memorable night of R'n'B, rare grooves and plenty of "deep" garage (OK, I'll say it - speed garage).
Mix at the bar, bust your best move on the dancefloor or chill with the Sunday papers, it's all good south London fun.
Sundays, 1 Nine Elms Lane, Vauxhall SW8 (0171-272 4185) 9pm-3am, non- members pounds 5 before 11pm/pounds 8 after, members pounds 4 before 11pm/pounds 6 after
