From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Anne Hathaway has announced she is pregnant with her second child while sharing a message of support to women struggling with infertility.

The actress shared the news that she and husband Adam Shulman are expecting another baby on Instagram, where she wrote alongside a selfie showing her stomach: “It’s not for a movie… #2.

“All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”

The couple, who have been married since 2012, welcomed their son Jonathan Rosebanks in March 2016.

Although the Devil Wears Prada actress announced her first pregnancy on Instagram as well, she rarely posts photos of her three-year-old on social media - as she thinks it invites people into her personal life.

In 2017, the actress shared the first photo of Jonathan on Instagram, in which he could be seen watching Hathaway give a speech at the United Nations on gender equality.

Shortly after uploading the picture, the 36-year-old said she regretted it.

“I had never posted a photo of my son and I decided to post a shot of the back of his head, and almost as soon as I’d done it, I wished that I hadn’t,” she told Jezebel. “I felt like I had broken a seal in inviting people into my life.

“And even though I felt as though I had done it in as protective a way as I could, even though it was a moment I was incredibly proud of, I don’t know that I’ll ever do it again. I’m a big believer that you gotta mess things up sometimes to really see them properly, so if I made a mistake or I messed up, I know how I feel about it much better now.”

Since announcing her second pregnancy, Hathaway has received thousands of well-wishes, including from women who have thanked her for her supportive message.
