Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Bottoms: The Ladies section of the "Rear of the Year" competition this year was won by Miss Melinda Messenger. The reputation of the contest was somewhat tarnished, however, by a revelation that nine out of 10 of the married female winners in the title's 21 year history had split from their husbands.

Fridge magnets: The new American edition of the Guinness Book of Records says that Ms Louise Greenfarb of Nevada has 19,300 fridge magnets, the largest such collection in the world.

Santa Claus Pub Crawl: The police in the Australian city of Newcastle have warned participants in the annual Santa Claus Pub Crawl not to include any alcoholic drinks in their sacks. Any Santa with drink in his sack will be liable to a fine of A$550 (more than pounds 200). "We have had a lot of trouble with the Santa Claus Pub Crawl in the past, with property damage, stealing of garden gnomes and defecating and urinating Santas," a police spokeswoman said. "It's been very ugly." Last year, the event attracted about 6,000 contestants
