For some reason, newlyweds are often confronted by prying questions about when they are going to have children.

But, the reality is that while some couples might be waiting for the right time, others can struggle with fertility issues or simply not be interested in expanding their family.

Whatever the response, it's a hugely personal question that most people would be well advised to avoid asking.

No stranger to such interrogations, actor Alison Brie has revealed that she and her husband of a year, Dave Franco, have come to the decision that they do not want to become parents.

Discussing the topic in a new interview, the GLOW star explained why she'd prefer to live a child-free life.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Brie joked that the couple’s two cats, Harry and Arturo, were already a handful and that she thought she would find motherhood “stressful.”

“I don’t really want to have kids,” she said.

“It’s great because I don’t worry about when should I get pregnant — between seasons, while we’re shooting the show — I don’t think about it every day.

“It would be nice, but I think of all the things that would be so stressful.

“I think about how much we’re involved in our cats’ lives. Oh my God, if it was a child!”

The 35-year-old also opened up about married life with Dave Franco, who she has been in a relationship with since 2011.

“We spend time together at night. We just like to hang out,” Brie said.

“Having a really supportive partner in my life and knowing that he loves me no matter what. I’ve found my person.”

Brie and Franco aren’t alone in their decision to remain child-free. In recent years, a number of other celebrities have spoken out about their lack of desire to have children, all for different reasons.

Speaking to Glamour, actress Jennifer Aniston previously said she believes that pregnancy rumours perpetuate a sexist idea about how women should find happiness.

“My ideas of what a happy life and fulfilled life are might be different from other people's. I think it's to each their own,” Aniston said.

“No one knows what's going on beyond the four walls of your home, of these people who are having or not having children. It's a very sensitive area to go to, especially. It's sensitive to me.“

Similarly, Mad Men star Jon Hamm told US Weekly that he thought he would be a “terrible father” and that sleepless nights just couldn’t fit into his busy schedule.
