Adele has opened up about learning to love herself, explaining that she's ready to "feel the world" around her for the first time in 10 years.

On Saturday 20 April, it was reported that Adele had split from her husband of three years, Simon Konecki, with whom she has a six-year-old son.

Just over two weeks later, on Sunday 5 May, the "Rolling in the Deep" singer celebrated her 31st birthday

To mark the occasion, the star shared a post on Instagram, in which she spoke candidly about the difficulties she experienced during her 30th year.

The multi Grammy Award-winner wrote in the caption: "30 tried me so hard but I'm owning it and trying my hardest to lean in to it all. No matter how long we're here for life is constant and complicated at times.

"I've changed drastically in the last couple years and I'm still changing and that's okay."

Adele added that 31 is going to be a "big ol' year" that she's going to utilise by focusing on herself.

"For the first time in a decade I'm ready to feel the world around me and look up for once," she wrote.

In her Instagram post, Adele emphasised the importance of looking after yourself and not spending too much time transfixed by your phone.

"Be kind to yourself people we're only human, go slow, put your phone down and laugh out loud at every opportunity," the singer said.

"Learning to REALLY truly love yourself is it, and I've only just realised that that is more than enough."

When it was announced that Adele and Konecki had separated, several members of the public suggested the singer could use their split as material for a new album.

"Bunch of f****** savages," Adele described them in her Instagram post, before quipping that she would make her next album a drum and bass record just to "spite" them.

On Wednesday last week, Adele broke her silence on social media for the first time since the announcement of her divorce.

The "Someone Like You" singer shared a comedic meme on Instagram, with the caption: "When you catch yourself in your feelings then you remember who you are."

"Omg this is absolutely everything," one Instagram user commented in response.
