In Denver, Adam Deadmarsh scored two power-play goals and Chris Dingman had an assist and his first goal of the year as Colorado kept New York winless in their last seven games.
Milan Hejduk got his 10th goal in the last 11 games and Chris Drury had three assists for Colorado, which converted three of five power-play chances. Patrick Roy stopped 25 shots for his 418th career victory as the Avalanche ended a three-game home losing streak to the Rangers.
Theo Fleury, who spent the final 15 games with the Avalanche a year ago before signing with the Rangers, had his first goal in seven games. New York came into the game with the NHL's worst power play and was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
BLUES 2, OILERS 1
In Edmonton, Pierre Turgeon's power-play goal with 35 seconds left in the second period gave St. Louis its third win this season over Edmonton.
Jamal Mayers also scored for the Blues while Alex Selivanov had the only goal for the Oilers.
Edmonton took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Doug Weight set up Selivanov, who redirected the puck past St. Louis goaltender Jamie McLennan at 15:19. It was Selivanov's eighth goal of the season.
After Mayers tied the game at 18:34 of the second period on his first goal of the season, Turgeon scored the winner 51 seconds later when he intercepted Oilers defenseman Roman Hamrlik's poor clearing attempt on a power play. Turgeon scored on a shot from the top of the faceoff circle for his eighth goal of the season.
STARS 6, COYOTES 4
In Phoenix, Brett Hull's second goal of the third period, a power-play slap shot with 1:58 remaining, broke a tie and helped end Dallas' three-game losing streak.
The defending Stanley Cup champions also got two goals from Guy Carbonneau, including an empty-netter with two seconds remaining.
Phoenix, which outshot Dallas 22-10 through two periods, blew a 3-1 lead and lost its second straight game and first at home this season.
Hull and Jamie Wright scored 21 seconds apart to forge a 3-3 tie 1:28 into the third period.
CANUCKS 3, PANTHERS 2
In Vancouver, British Columbia, Brad May scored the go-ahead goal, breaking a 2-2 tie late in the second period, to give Vancouver a victory over the Pavel Bure-less Florida Panthers.
Bure missed his first meeting against his former team with a broken finger.Alexander Mogilny and Mark Messier also scored for the Canucks, who are 4-1-1 in their last six games. Corey Schwab stopped 23 shots to earn his second straight victory since being acquired in a deal to bolster the Canucks injured goalie ranks.
FLYERS 3, SHARKS 1
In San Jose, California, John Vanbiesbrouck had a shutout until the final two minutes and John LeClair and Raymond Lankow scored first-period goals to lift Philadelphia to its fifth straight win.
The Flyers are 7-1-1 in their last nine games. The loss ended a four-game Sharks unbeaten streak. Vanbiesbrouck had his shutout spoiled when the Sharksÿ Alexander Korolyuk scored a wrap-around goal with just 1:26 left in the game.
