Plans unveiled for world's first Lego summer camp

A Bahamas hotel has announced plans to open the world's first Lego summer day camp for children.

The Atlantis, Paradise Island resort is to offer five-day programs for children themed around LEGO Atlantis, the toymaker's hit underwater series.

The program includes four full days of activities, including scavenger hunts, go-kart racing and swimming with dolphins.

A Lego Master Builder will be on hand to teach youngsters tips and tricks when building their toys in the Lego construction zone, a room complete with thousands of Lego bricks of all sizes and colors and a wall covered in Lego base plate that children can build directly onto.

Other highlights include ice cream socials and a pizza and "coketail" party for children.

The summer day camp is to be held at Atlantis's futuristic Atlantis Kids Adventures, an 8,000 square foot (743 square meter) high-tech facility at the hotel. The area, available to families staying at the hotel, features touch-screen walls and floors, digital "finger-painting" tables and a hands-on cooking class.

The camp sessions will take place from July 12-16, July 19-23, and July 26-30, with a cost per session of $425 per child (€315) excluding accommodation. The camp is aimed at children aged 6-12.

Summer camps are a popular vacation activity in the United States, although less so in other parts of the world. The American Camp Association estimates that over 10 million US children visit a camp every year to "connect with nature, to participate in human-powered activities, and to benefit from personal and primary relationships."
