André-Charles Boulle retrospective in Frankfurt

More than 150 works of André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732), Louis the XIVth's acclaimed cabinetmaker, are to be displayed in Frankfurt in the first major retrospective dedicated to the French master craftsman. Boulle was so influential that he gave his name to a technique called boulle, or buhl work, that swept Europe and was heavily imitated during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Mumbai film festival

The 11th annual Mumbai film includes American screenwriter Paul Schrader ( Taxi Driver) and Iranian director Jafar Panahi on its 2009 jury. On top of the annual competition, a lifetime achievement award to be given to Indian director Shashi Kapoor and an international achievement award for Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos.

The First Annual Art Awards at the NY Guggenheim

The first edition of the annual Art Awards aims to celebrate the work of contemporary artists, institutions and projects that have changed the face of contemporary art during the year. Presenters at this year's event include Cecily Brown, Sofia Coppola and Mary-Kate Olsen. Categories include Artist of the Year, Curator of the Year and Exhibition Outside the United States.

This annual outdoor exhibition by the waters of Australia takes sculptures out of the galleries to exhibit them on the Bondi Sydney beach. Approximately 400,000 visitors are attracted to the cultural event to contemplate over 100 contemporary artworks.

"Dysfashional" exhibition

A handful of conceptual fashion designers, including avantgarde designers Hussein Chalayan, Martin Margiela and Raf Simons, have teamed up to stage an exhibition combining fashion and contemporary art to open in Paris and Berlin. The exhibit, previously held in Luxembourg (2007) and Switzerland (2008), aims at introducing the public to the designers' visions and 'universes' through installations and dance performances, instead of simply showing their collections.
