In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Johnny Newman scored 25 points and Keith Van Horn added 23 and a career-high 18 rebounds as the Nets won for the first time this season.
The Nets snapped a three-game losing streak, while Washington lost its third straight after winning their season opener.
New Jersey iced the victory by holding Washington without a field goal over the first 7:54 of the fourth quarter while outscoring the Wizards 24-4 for a 99-72 lead. Newman had 14 points in that run.
Kendall Gill added 19 points for New Jersey, while Scott Burrell had 17 and Stephon Marbury 10. Richard Hamilton led the Wizards with 14 points.

SUNS 77, SPURS 74
In Phoenix, Jason Kidd scored 23 points, including two big baskets in the final minute, as the Suns held on to beat the previously unbeaten Spurs.
Kidd's jumper from the top of the key with 57 seconds remaining gave Phoenix its first lead of the game. He hit another 14 seconds later.
Terry Porter's 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds to go cut Phoenix's lead to 75-74, but Kidd added two free throws for the final margin.
Rodney Rogers had 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as Phoenix battled back from a 15-point, third-quarter deficit.
Tim Duncan had 15 points and 17 rebounds for San Antonio, while David Robinson, who was in foul trouble, had 12 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes.

LAKERS 105, MAVERICKS 97
In Los Angeles, Shaquille O'Neal, ejected a night earlier after displaying anger over what he perceived to be rough fouls, responded with 30 points and 20 rebounds for the Lakers.
The win was the 17th straight for the Lakers against the Mavericks over a span of 4 1/2 years, and their 18th in a row at home over Dallas dating to December 1990.
O'Neal, who picked up two technical fouls early in the fourth quarter of the 97-82 loss at Portland, resulting in an automatic ejection, took out his wrath on the Mavericks. He maintained his poise throughout and was taken out with 3:16 remaining and the Lakers leading 99-88.
Glen Rice added 20 points and seven assists for the Lakers.
Michael Finley paced the Mavericks with 29 points.
