Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

MIAMI HEAT 113, INDIANA PACERS 101
Miami - Alonzo Mourning had 33 points and 16 rebounds, and the Miami Heat again displayed newfound firepower on Tuesday night, beating the Indiana Pacers 113-101.
The Heat, adapting to NBA rule changes designed to increase scoring, topped 100 points for the third time in four games. They reached the 100 mark only four times last season despite winning the Atlantic Division, and never scored more than 102.
But against Indiana, the Heat shot 52 percent, scored 40 points in the first period and led by at least nine the rest of the way.
JAZZ 92, BLAZERS 87
Salt Lake City - Karl Malone scored 24 points in his first game against Portland since a horrible effort in last year's season-ending playoff loss.
Malone shot 6-of-11 from the field and made 12 of 14 free throws as Utah handed Portland its first loss in five games this season. Malone was 3-of-16 in the decisive sixth game of a second-round playoff loss to the Blazers last season.
Steve Smith led the Blazers with 26 points.
LAKERS 123, MAVERICKS 101
Dallas - Shaquille O'Neal had 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Dallas Mavericks for the 18th consecutive time.
O'Neal made only 3 of 14 free throws, but was 12-of-16 from the field. Glen Rice added 21 points and Rick Fox had 18 off the bench for the Lakers, who haven't lost to the Mavericks since April 5, 1995.
Michael Finley and Erick Strickland scored 19 points each for the Mavericks, who have lost three of their first five games.
SUNS 103, BULLS 80
Chicago - Jason Kidd and Tom Gugliotta helped Phoenix build a big lead and the Suns shut off a fourth-quarter rally by Chicago's bench to beat the winless Bulls.
Kidd, Gugliotta and Cliff Robinson scored 19 apiece for the Suns, who blocked 14 shots and built a 28-point lead in the third quarter.
Elton Brand scored 11 points for the Bulls, whose 0-4 start is their worst since losing their first nine games in 1967-68.
