From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

West Ham United have registered an interest in Baros who, despite declaring a determination to remain at Anfield after moves to Valencia and Lyon failed to materialise, is now resigned to his fate at the club he joined for £3.5m from Banik Ostrava in 2001. The striker, however, would favour a move to Spain's La Liga and his representative Pavel Paska met Deportivo officials yesterday with Liverpool's blessing.
Deportivo are keen to strengthen their attack, with Alberto Luque destined for Real Madrid and Walter Pandiani seeking a permanent exit from Estadio De Riazor following his loan spell at Birmingham City last season.
A move for Baros could open the possibility of a swap deal involving the Portuguese defender Jorge Andrade, who could act as cover for Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.
Liverpool remain confident of a deal for Luis Figo, despite his protracted negotiations with Madrid, and have also been linked with Seville's Daniel Alves, who can operate at right-back or right midfield.
Everton have re-signed Alessandro Pistone on a two-year contract, having released the Italian at the end of last season.
David Moyes is also hoping to make progress on the £4m acquisition of the Roma midfielder Simone Perrotta this week, although the deal depends on Fifa, the world governing body, lifting a transfer embargo.
Roma were banned from signing players for 12 months following a Fifa investigation into the transfer of Phillipe Mexes from Auxerre last summer and are awaiting the outcome of an appeal over that decision before deciding whether they can afford to reduce their playing staff.
