Mexican Art Festival

Brussels, Belgium
To celebrate the bicentennial of Mexican independence and the centennial of its revolution, Brussels' Centre for Fine Arts is organizing a four-month festival in the Belgium capital called Mexico!. The festivities start with a key exhibition of works by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo entitled Frida Kahlo y su mundo (and her world) from January 16 to April 18, followed by an exhibition on Mexican modernism opening in February, as well as a presentation of Contemporary Mexican Photography opening the same month.

Istanbul European Capital of Culture 2010

For its year as European Capital of Culture, the cosmopolitan Turkish city, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, has invested in many restoration projects on historic sites and developed an extensive program of cultural events and festivals to revive its cultural scene with more than 400 events. The festivities will be launched on January 16 with the opening ceremony and will continue throughout the year.

The Golden Globe Awards

The Hollywood-based film awards ceremonies are ready to bounce back on January 17 with a live show at 5 pm PST instead of the traditional time-delay, with British entertainer Ricky Gervais as host of the 67th ceremony. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that they will honor Martin Scorsese with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award.

Mumbai Marathon 2010

Mumbai will be overrun with marathoners come January for the city's seventh annual marathon, one of the Top 10 in the world. Though not part of the five major world marathons - New York, Boston, Chicago, London and Berlin - the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is considered the largest in Asia. There are 3,000 spots available for the full marathon, and 33,000 others between the half marathon, Dream Run, Senior Citizen's run and wheelchair race.
