Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

During the same week (January 7-10) , Las Vegas hosts the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the Adult Entertainment Expo, which are set to attract respectively 100,000 and 30,000 visitors. CES is the world's largest consumer technology trade show. It is a highlight on most technology-minded people's calendar because it welcomes numerous high-profile technology companies and is the launch-place for many groundbreaking new gadgets and high-tech products. The Adult Entertainment Expo attracts fewer people but remains the largest pornography industry trade show in the United States and one of the biggest in the world.
As part of the festivities for what would be Elvis Presley's 75th birthday, the Canadian troupe Cirque du Soleil presents Viva ELVIS , a tribute to the King’s music and life. The show blends acrobatics, dance and live music on the stage at the Aria Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Previews started December 18 and run through the official gala premiere, February 19.
Twice a year, Las Vegas hosts an international fashion industry trade fair called MAGIC International (February 16-19 and August 17-19), that brings 70,000 visitors to town to check the newest trends in men's, women's and children's apparel, footwear as well as accessories.
Cars are also a key attraction in Vegas, especially the Nascar (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) weekend that will lead more than 147,000 people to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway between February 26 and 28. It is the biggest sport event of the year in Nevada. Later in 2010, the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW) comprising two car-tuning events, will take place between November 2 and 5.
SEMA, The Specialty Equipment Market Association show, which is the premier automotive aftermarket products trade event in the world, is the more popular of the two, attracting 100,000 visitors, whereas the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo ( AAPEX), representing the do-it-yourself retail aftermarket gets 10,000 attendants every year.
