Peter Schaefer had two goals and an assist as the Vancouver Canucks scored two shorthanded goals in a 5-2 victory over the Flyers on Tuesday night, ending Philadelphia's four-game winning streak.
Philadelphia's goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck's club-record scoreless streak ended at 227 minutes, 40 seconds.
Markus Naslund had a goal and two assists, and goalie Kevin Weekes stopped 33 shots.
Mark Messier added his fourth goal of the season, an empty-netter with 72 seconds left.
The Flyers dropped to 3-4 at home and 0-2 against Western Conference teams. The Canucks, leading the Northwest Division after two straight last-place finishes, won their second straight. They beat Philadelphia for the first time since 1993, breaking an 0-8-1 slide.
Mark Recchi's fourth goal opened the scoring for Philadelphia.
Darby Hendrickson tied it with 6:47 left in the first before Schaefer scored Vancouver's second straight shorthanded goal just over three minutes later to make it 2-1.
After Mikael Renberg tied it late in the first on the power play, Schaefer scored his second of the game and sixth of the season on the power play 63 seconds into the second to make it 3-2.
THRASHERS 2, FLAMES 1
Andrew Brunette scored on a rebound early in the second period and goaltender Damian Rhodes made 13 saves in the third as the Thrashers got their franchise-first home victory.
The game marked the first meeting between the expansion Thrashers and the Flames, who first played in Atlanta from 1972-80.
Rhodes made 30 saves overall to improve to 2-2-2.
Nelson Emerson's second goal of the season, coming on a power play, gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead at 7:55 of the first.
The Flames tied it on a power play when Clarke Wilm scored just in front of Rhodes at 9:42 of the first.
Calgary outshot Atlanta 13-1 in the third period after the shots were even through the first two periods.
