Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spurs have been tracking the Belgium defender since last season as he helped Ajax win their second consecutive Eredivisie title. Vertonghen is due to undergo a medical at White Hart Lane this week before completing a deal.
"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Jan Vertonghen, subject to a medical," a club statement read.
Vertonghen said: "I'm 25 and I feel ready to play in the Premier League. I think I'm ready for the club."
The Belgian will bolster a Spurs central defence that has been weakened by the departure of Ryan Nelsen and the likely retirement of the long-serving club captain, Ledley King.
Vertonghen is the second signing since the former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas took over at Spurs this month, after the arrival of Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who impressed at Swansea City last season while on loan from Hamburg.
