Murray (right), who has just replaced the Swiss at No 3 in the world rankings after winning his last three tournaments, has taken a wild card into the tournament. A highly competitive field includes Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish and Tomas Berdych.
Laura Robson went out of the Aegon GB Pro-Series tournament in Barnstaple yesterday when she was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Russia's Ekaterina Bychkova, the world No 169. The 2008 Wimbledon junior champion, who beat her fellow Briton Heather Watson 24 hours earlier, should nevertheless rise from her present place at No 135 in the world rankings when they are updated next week.
The British women's No 3 Anne Keothavong, who reached the semi-finals in Luxembourg last week, maintained her good form in Barnstaple, beating Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele 6-3, 7-6 to set up a semi-final meeting with Germany's Mona Barthel, the top seed.
Victoria Azarenka and Petra Kvitova became the first players to qualify for the semi-finals of the season-ending WTA Championships in Istanbul after winning their round-robin matches against Li Na and Caroline Wozniacki respectively. The other two places will go to Wozniacki or Agnieszka Radwanska, who needs to win only a set against Kvitova today, and the winner of the match between Li and Sam Stosur.
