Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Lon Las Loonies, an amateur cycling group from Prestatyn, recently completed a four day, 350 mile charity bike trek to raise money for a national charity dedicated to helping visually impaired ex-servicemen and women.
The “Loonies” have been cycling to raise money since 2013; their inaugural ride to Cardiff brought in £16,000 for local and national charities. This year, the cyclists took on their most challenging ride yet, from Llandudno to Sheffield and back, a route that took the group past Snowdonia and through the Peak District. Their epic journey this year has raised over £10,000 for Blind Veterans UK, which was founded as St. Dunstan’s in 1915. Guy Bancroft, the club’s co-founder, says that the Loonies want to get people back on bikes and to use their enthusiasm for cycling in support of worthwhile causes. Bancroft says the Loonies are planning their next ride towards the end of June 2016.
