The sequel to the popular console and PC game is on its way, according to its publishers. It is not clear when the game will be released or who is actually making it, but more is expected to be revealed in the coming days.
The announcement came after a run of strange and cheeky teasers over the last week.
The first Rage was released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2011. It received a huge amount of coverage in advance of its release and was met with mostly positive reviews, scoring around 80 per cent on Metacritic.
As such, the sequel was something of a surprise, given that the first game was one of Bethesda's less well-regarded titles.
The game was based in a post-apocalyptic future, after much of the world had been destroyed by the impact of an asteroid. The second version appears to be taking on much the same style.
"Dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order," Bethesda said. "Rage 2 brings together a true open world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything."
But it is not clear if it will be made by the same studio, id Software. That company recently released the new and well-regarded version of Doom – but it has been suggested that it may not be involved with the new sequel.
The game will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, said Bethesda.
A full gameplay trailer – which might also bring with it more details about release date and other details – is expected to follow a day after the teaser was launched.
