Since PUBG made the style of game popular, and Fortnite took much the same idea and helped make it even bigger, battle royale games have become big business. Many of the world's biggest developers are rushing to make versions of their own, hoping to tempt players away from the two big titles.
Since then, both games have been quickly adding new updates in an effort to maintain interest in the games. They have included new maps and new kind of game modes, with developers suggesting they hope to add even more fundamental changes in the future.
PUBG's developers have announced that they will change the way that guns work in the game, for instance. It said in a post on Steam that it had found too many people were using the game's assault rifles – and that as a result the weapons system would be changed to be more fitting with the developer's hope that no one gun would be seen as absolutely any better than any other.
But it also announced that it will be bringing a new map to PUBG on the Xbox One, for the first time. The desert-themed Miramar will be rolling out alongside the original map – but for now only on a separate test server, which must be downloaded as an app, and only at specific times in the US and then Europe.
Fortnite's updates are slightly smaller, but still revolve around the game's weapons. Developers Epic Games have added new weapons – a sticky grenade and a "Noble Launcher" that gets more powerful as it is charged up – as well as adding the ability to get refunds on some of the items purchased through the game.
Both Fortnite and PUBG have recently been released in mobile versions. PUBG for mobile has also received an update that allows people to try out guns and use new modes.
