The reveal event, referred as the “Future of Gaming” event, was originally scheduled to take place on 4 June.
However, Sony postponed the occasion in response to the global protests over the death of George Floyd, saying: ”We do not feel that right now is a time for celebration. We want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the PS5 reveal.
When is it and how can I watch it?
The PS5 reveal will take place on Thursday 11 June 2020, and will begin at 9pm BST. The event will last for over an hour.
Sony’s official announcement reads: ”Hi all – thanks for being patient and understanding while we rescheduled this PS5 event for Thursday 11 June at 1pm Pacific Time / 9pm BST.
“We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.”
The event will be streamed on official Playstation channels, including Twitch and YouTube, and on the official PlayStation website.
Which PS5 games will be revealed?
While it is not yet known which games will be showcased during the reveal event, last month’s Xbox Series X game reveal offered a look at a few of the cross-platform titles which will be debuting on the Ps5.
These included the Viking-era stealth game Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, American football simulator Madden NFL 21, and off-road racing game DiRT 5.
One of the most eagerly awaited non-franchise releases is Godfall, an action-RPG from the makers of Borderlands which is set to be a Ps5 exclusive.
Several other games are also tipped to debut on Sony’s upcoming console, but it is not confirmed which will make an appearance during the game reveal event.
What will happen in the event?
The official announcement provided a few more ideas of what to expect.
It reads: “Now that the event is confirmed for June 11, I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second.
“This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.
“It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can — there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”
