From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The servers powering the multiplayer games have been in operation for almost 10 years. But, in September, developers Naughty Dog will switch them off.
"It’s bittersweet to say the least," the team wrote in an update. "Uncharted and The Last of Us multiplayer on the PS3 are defining entries in Naughty Dog’s history and we’ve been honoured to support the passionate communities that have grown around them for almost a decade.
"We have so many fond memories from playing alongside you throughout the years."
But developers want to ensure that players have a last chance to play the games before they disappear, and will allow people to get free access to the games' multiplayer DLC next few months.
The switch-off will take in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, The Last of Us, and The Last of Us Left Behind on the PlayStation 3.
Until 3 September, when the servers will be switched off, they will run as normal and players will be able to download the multiplayer bundles for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us for free. They can be found in the PlayStation store, where they should appear like any other game.
"Whether you’re an active player or want to play a few rounds for old time’s sake, there’s never been a better time to experience the full breadth of Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, and The Last of Us Left Behind multiplayer on PS3," developers wrote.
