GTA 5: Fans unearth Grand Theft Auto V Easter eggs teasing time travel link to Red Dead Redemption
Two of the most popular franchises in gaming seem to be hinting at a crossover

With the Grand Theft Auto franchise set in the modern-day US, and Red Dead Redemption set more than a century before in the Wild West, the chances of a crossover have always been slim.
However, a new fan theory has unearthed a number of Easter eggs that seem to point to a connection between the two franchises – even opening up the possibility of time travel. Media website Inverse compiled a list of clues that seem to suggest Grand Theft Auto V takes place in same universe as the Red Dead.
Firstly, in Grand Theft Auto V, there is a book entitled “Red Dead”, written by “J Marston”, that can be seen on bookshelves in the game’s world.
While some have suggested that the fictional book was written by John Marston, the protagonist of the original Red Dead, a more likely possibility is that it was penned by his son, Jack Marston, who is sometimes seen reading.
A second clue is found in Red Dead Redemption 2, in the character of Francis Sinclair. In the game, players locate a number of rock carvings at the behest of the ginger-haired Sinclair, but, arriving at his stated address, discover a woman with a ginger-haired baby who looks just like him – along with mysterious sketches of Sinclair travelling through time.
A third Easter egg concerns the Sasquatch hunter – a crazed-looking huntsman whom the player encounters in both Grand Theft Auto V and the Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare expansion pack. The character looks almost identical in both game's - his very presence and otherworldly occupation seem to again hint at the possibility of time travel.
Grand Theft Auto V‘s art director Aaron Garbut hinted back in 2013 that there were plenty of “obscure” secrets hidden in the game, telling Tech Radar: “There’s stuff that’s so obscure that most people will never see it.”
