From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The results of the 2021 Games Baftas have been announced, with the Nintendo Switch action game Hades proving the night’s big winner.

Awards were handed out during a ceremony that was streamed virtually last night (25 March), and hosted by Elle Osili-Wood.

Naughty Dog’s harrowing sequel The Last of Us Part II had been the frontrunner since the nominations were announced, picking up a record-breaking 13 nods.

However, on the night, it took home just three awards: Animation and Performer in a Leading Role (for Laura Bailey) as well as the EE Game of the Year Award, which is voted for by the public.

Hades took home Best Game, Artistic Achievement, Game Design and Narrative, while voice actor Logan Cunningham took home the award for Performer in a Supporting Role.

Elsewhere, Animal Crossing, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Carrion also took home trophies, along with Sony’s samurai-era epic Ghost of Tsushima.

It was also a good night for Dreams, the creation-based game made by LittleBigPlanet’s Media Molecule. The game itself bagged the award for Technical Achievement, while studio director Siobhan Reddy was honoured with the Bafta Fellowship, the Academy’s highest honour.
