Peter Dinklage has been dropped from the video game Destiny, with a new actor taking over and re-recording all of the actor’s old dialogue.

Dinklage’s voice is the primary one in Destiny, which was released last year, and the actor has come under heavy criticism for his “wooden” performance. He will now be replaced by Nolan North, who specialises in video game acting and has appeared in Uncharted, Asssassin’s Creed and the Batman: Arkham series.

North will not only take over the character of Ghost, the robot personal assistant that flies around the players’ character, in future games. The actor will also re-record all of the audio from versions of Destiny that have been released.

Criticism of Dinklage’s acting became so common that it almost became a meme. One video making fun of Dinklage’s delivery of a specific line, “That wizard came from the moon”, has received hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

Criticism of the performance began early on, when players tested a version of the game before it received a full release. Their feedback indicated problems with Dinklage’s acting, and the developers attempted to stem some of the criticism by adding special effects to make the lines sound more like a robot.

It is in stark contrast to the reception to Dinklage’s character Tyrion Lannister, in Game of Thrones, for which he has received an Emmy and Golden Globe. Some have suggested that the ill-received performance was the fault of the script, rather than Dinklage himself.

North told Game Informer that he is “really excited to do this role”.

“You want to give him as much personality as the world will allow, without making it unbelievable,” he told the site. “There’s a fine line to walk there, and I think we found it.”
