From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Epic Games detailed the new “Season X – Out of Time” in its comprehensive Patch Notes, revealing new places to explore, new experiences to enjoy and new secrets to uncover.
The latest season of the battle royale game will also allow Fortnite players to gift the Battle Pass to a friend in-game, which costs 950 V-Bucks and is available now.
"Whether you're nostalgic for the past or excited for the future, there will be plenty for you to discover all Season long," Epic explained.
"Time is twisted and the Zero Point has become volatile in Season X."
Season X has brought with it new ways to play Fortnite, such as commandeering a new two-person vehicle called B.R.U.T.E. that lets one player control the movement while their partner takes control of the weapons.
There are also strange Rift Zones, where “locations once thought to be lost are beginning to appear”. There’s a twist though – these places aren’t the same as they used to be and can unexpectedly alter things within the environment.
Dedicated players can unlock rewards as they level up, with perhaps the ultimate reward offered at Tier 100: the Ultima Knight Outfit.
New to the Season X Battle Pass is Missions, which allow player to unlock rewards by completing a series of "thematic objectives that will send you on adventures across the Island".
One of these is called Hit the Road and involves four players helping Quin get to the Radio Station in a road trip adventure.
"You never know what challenges and obstacles you may find along the way, and getting there is half the adventure," the Patch Notes state.
"Load up the van and gather your group because it’s time to Hit the Road!"
The latest season comes straight after the hugely successful Fortnite World Cup, which saw 40 million players compete over several months for a place in the finals.
Epic called it the most participated-in tournament of all time, and the prize pool of $30 million made it the most lucrative eSports competition to-date.
Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf, a 16-year-old from Pennsylvania, dominated the Solos finals and took home the $3 million prize, as well as the honour of being named the world's best individual Fortnite player.
