FIFA 13 sells over 4.5 million copies on first week of sale

EA's football sim ships over 4.5 million games across all platforms worldwide in just five days.

EA is trumpeting the success of FIFA 13, announcing that the EA Canada game is the biggest videogame launch of 2012 and biggest sports videogame launch of all-time.

In the UK alone the title sold more than 1.23 million copies over its maiden weekend (according to GfK Chart-Track Total UK Market estimates), before going on to sell a what EA are calling a ‘record-smashing’ 4.5 million games across all platforms worldwide in its first week of sale, becoming the top selling game of the week in at least 40 countries around the world.

It seems fans are also playing FIFA 13 in record numbers too with EA confirming that on 30th September alone 800,000 fans played the game simultaneously. Further, more than 66 million online game sessions have already been played, representing a staggering 600 million minutes of play.

FIFA 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment,’ said Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice President of EA Sports. ‘Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said – FIFA 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created.’
