Details about the forthcoming video game Far Cry 6 were seemingly posted by accident on the PlayStation store ahead of Sunday’s Ubisoft event.

On PlayStation’s Hong Kong website, a since-deleted post featured a picture of the game’s cover art, which confirmed rumours that Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito would star as the game’s villain.

A description of the game on the page read: “Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. As the dictator of Yara, Anton Castillo is intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.”

The art sees a character that clearly resembles Esposito standing with his hands on the shoulders of a child – presumably, Anton Castillo and his son.

According to the post, players will control a character called Dani Rojas, a “Yaran” who becomes a guerrilla fighter to “liberate the nation”.

Previous entries in the Far Cry franchise have been first-person open world shooters set in violence-struck fictional regions of the world.

The Far Cry 6 description also says players will be able to “employ makeshift weapons and vehicles”, and stated that this game would represent “the largest Far Cry playground to date”, with environments spanning “jungles, beaches and Esperanza, the capital city of Yara”.

The game is expected to be formally announced on Sunday (12 July), as part of the Ubisoft Forward event, which people can stream on the internet.

In Breaking Bad (and its spin-off series Better Call Saul), Esposito plays the calculating meth baron Gus Fring. The actor has also appeared in Westworld, The Mandalorian, and Dear White People on Netflix.

According to the leak, Far Cry 6 will be released in 2021.
