Destiny has stopped working, with players on both versions of the game unable to get online.

The problem appears to be with Bungie's online servers, since players on all platforms were hit by the issues.

Developers Bungie said they were "investigating issues" but the problems have now been ongoing for hours.

"We are continuing to investigate this issue," its latest tweet read. "Thank you for your patience while we provide further updates."

Many players complained in the response to the tweet they they had been in specific and important parts of the game when they found themselves unable to play.

A message on the Bungie help site said that the company was "actively investigating issues impacting all Destiny services".

"Until resolved, some Destiny and Bungie.net services may experience disruptions," it continued, pointing affected players to its Twitter feed for updates.

Since Destiny is largely played online, the server problems stopped the game from being playable.
