Borderlands 3 had its global gameplay reveal event on Tuesday April 30 from a secret location in Los Angeles, showing off a special pre-release demo version of the game.

The event, hosted by 2K and Gearbox Software, gave attendees an opportunity to get a hands-on preview of the gameplay, as well as a never-before seen trailer. We got our own time with the game and you can check out our first impressions here.

A brief teaser video confirming the game’s production released in March, offering fans a glimpse of what was to come.

Borderlands 3 is a brand-new first-person shooter game set on the fictional desert planet of Pandora, a world full of vaults to be plundered and loot to be claimed by intrepid characters known as vault hunters.

At the event, Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, gave a presentation which showed the first 20 minutes of the ambitious game’s introduction, featuring a plethora of new guns, characters and enemies in ample supply.

As the third entry in the Borderlands series, it promises to be everything and more of what the previous games are largely famous and praised for.

The extensive gameplay reveal teased their trademark focus on role-playing elements and beating tough enemies for better loot, along with a whole host of new additions to the game, further expanding on the formula cultivated by Gearbox Software since the very first Borderlands release in 2009.

The biggest change in Borderlands 3 is the ability to travel to different worlds. For the first time ever in a Borderlands game you can now leave Pandora behind to explore a much wider and far more colourful universe.

During the event presentation, Mr Pitchford teased such new features coming to the game’s multiplayer: one being a new system called Instanced Looting.

While playing online or through local split screen, this option allows each person playing in your group to have their own version of guns and gear found in chests and dropped by enemies.

Not only will the weapons and gear be different, but the level requirements for it will be adjusted to that player’s level too.

That makes sure that everyone gets what they want from the combat encounters, and to also stop players online from stealing all the gear that gets dropped. This option of instanced looting can also be turned off, reverting the game to its Classic mode seen in Borderlands 1 and 2.

Typical to a Borderlands game, players can choose to take on the role of four possible characters, each with their own class and specialisations offering wholly different ways to play.

The game bares all the tell-tale staples of the irreverent and macabre style of Borderlands, all of which have become synonymous with the series.

Gearbox will be releasing more information in the coming months, notably at the massive gaming event Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3 which will take place in June.

Borderlands 3 is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on 13 September 2019.
