Follow the latest updates live from the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring where Valtteri Bottas starts from pole position ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

The Nurburgring’s return to the Formula One calendar for the first time in seven years has not been short on drama, with Friday’s running completely washed out and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll ruled out with illness, meaning another call-up for Nico Hulkenberg in his place.

Qualifying also produced a surprise as Bottas left his rivals in his dust, producing a lap nearly 0.4s faster than championship leader Hamilton, who just squeezed onto the front row ahead of Red Bull’s Verstappen. There was also welcome relief for Ferrari with Charles Leclerc taking fourth ahead of the second Red Bull of Alex Albon, ahead of the two Renaults, but Sebastian Vettel starts outside of the top 10 once again after qualifying 11th. Follow live updates below.

LAP 35

This time Perez makes it stick as he takes fifth before the chicane, before pulling clear down the straight. Job done for the Mexican.

LAP 35

Perez shows his nose into the final chicane, before beating Leclerc out of the corner as the Ferrari lights up the rear wheels. However, Leclerc has DRS, and quickly blasts by to re-take fifth on the finish straight and into Turn One. Great stuff.

LAP 34

Perez is showing good pace out there and is quickly onto the gearbox of Leclerc, although the Ferrari blocks the Racing Point into Turn One to maintain position … for now.

LAP 31

Norris pits and continues on his way, but despite beating Perez out of the pits, the Racing Point dives inside him into the final chicane to snatch fifth.

Perez does indeed now pit, and Sainz follows him in in the sister McLaren.

LAP 28

Norris is getting himself into a right pickle. “Am I pitting or what? What’s the point, Perez has boxed?”

No he hasn’t, he’s right behind the McLaren, and information is quickly relayed to enlighten the young Briton.

“My bad," comes the sheepish response, although thankfully his pace is good.

LAP 26

Oh no, another one! Norris reports no power and the team have spotted a sensor issue, which is costing him electronic deployment. The first attempted fix hasn’t worked… and Perez is closing in.

LAP 24

Five-second penalty for Albon for causing the collision with Kvyat, which ripped the Russian’s front wing off. Albon immediately comes into the pits, meaning he’ll serve the penalty right now… no they’re not, they’re retiring the car! Another one bites the dust!

LAP 23

Another mechanical failure as Ocon slows dramatically and grinds to a halt before his pit box, reporting no brakes and no gears. It sounds like a hydraulic failure.
