Fashion: Who needs Kate Moss?
Last week may have seen the launch of yet another collection for Topshop by the prolific Kate Moss (yawn), but the collaboration that has been getting style mavens hot under the collar is the retailer's forthcoming one with London-based designer Danielle Scutt.
While it may not have the Moss-market appeal that inevitably whips up a riot at Topshop's Oxford Circus flagship, Scutt's 10-item capsule range is all the more desirable for its fashion-insider cachet and should create a mini-stampede of its own.
In keeping with the glamorous aesthetic that has won Scutt a gaggle of celebrity fans with an eye for quirkier styles, from Gwen Stefani to, well, her stepdaughter, Daisy Lowe, the collection mixes key basics with some wilder touches typical of the young designer's catwalk offerings (pictured).
There are ripped jeans and oversized shirts in of-the-moment sun-bleached denim that fuse 1980s and Wild West vibes, while a super-slim, high-waisted indigo pencil skirt has a 1950s look. T-shirts and a bodysuit (a Scutt favourite) come emblazoned with tigers and snakes – creatures as fierce as the designer's take on feminine style.
All about beautiful, uncompromising clothes for women of the same nature, Scutt's aesthetic appeals to those keen to stand out from the pack rather than follow it, making it a breath of fresh air compared with Moss's boho-chic sartorial hegemony.
Be warned, though: if Scutt fans are as tough as her creations, you'll have to fight if you want to get your hands on this range.
Available from www.topshop.com and selected stores nationwide from 2 June
