Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Ah, the disappointment of racing to catch a late lunch, only to be told "We've stopped serving." Mick Jagger (pictured) can relate: on arriving recently at New York's smart Upper East-side brasserie Orsay at 3.01pm, the decidedly un-starstruck maître d' informed him: "I'm sorry, Mr Jagger. We stop serving lunch at 3pm."
Culture clashes are all the rage over here too: first, Atul Kochar, famous for his Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Benares in London, has opened Ananda in Dublin, featuring a brave Irish-Asian fusion menu. But this week's unusual new concept award goes to London's Sushinho – promoting an unlikely blend of Brazilian and Japanese cuisines. Foie gras and mango sushi, anyone? Wasabi aioli and salmon sashimi pizza? (Seriously...)
Far less bold is the undiluted Latino fare at London's"Mexican kitchen" Chilango, in Fleet Street: bright, modern and dishing up fresh, fast Mexican food for a fiver. Better still, it celebrates its opening this Friday with free burritos all day. Hurrah!
