All you need to know about Egypt’s World Youth Forum

The conference in Sharm El-Sheikh unites young people from around the world

Wednesday 31 October 2018 07:50 EDT

Created by young people for young people as a platform for perpetuating peace, prosperity and harmony, the second annual World Youth Forum takes place in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh from 3-6 November – and an exciting programme of events lies in store.

Featuring a special theatrical extravaganza, photography exhibitions, focus groups, food stalls and even a tech start-ups expo, the forum brings together 5,000 youngsters from around the world to connect with one another, and engage with some of the world’s top policymakers and influential figures.

This year, one of the forum’s key events is a theatrical performance directed by famed Egyptian director, writer and actor, Khaled Galal. Aiming to shine a spotlight on some of the most important issues affecting young people today, the show will star 16 international actors and actresses and will take place in the Egyptian coastal town on 3 November.

Another key feature of the forum is Freedom.e – a creativity centre which hosts a number of events and activities. Centred on culture, Freedom.e provides a space for young artists and photographers to display their work in non-traditional ways.

Not only that, but it plays host to such initiatives as E-sport (a mini stadium where gamers can partake in sports in front of live audiences), a Local Bites room (where traditional Egyptian foods are displayed and can be sampled), the Sound of Egypt (a guide to the country’s national singers), a networking space where participants can share and develop ideas, and a World Café, which will host focus groups and discussions based around topics put forward by the youth participants themselves.

Then there is Startup Vein, an exhibition of 30 tech start-ups – 18 Egyptian, 12 international – which offers founders the chance to present their business models to a universal audience and the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs and learn more about business management and finance.

Set to be an engaging and informative three-day event, the forum has already reached full capacity.

But worry not. Coverage will be streamed live online, and those eager to join in next year can register for the World Youth Forum 2019 on the website now.
