Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

We’re biased, of course, but few things are more fascinating than the shopping habits of others, and here at IndyBest we get more intel on that than most.

Our reader’s purchases throughout February were varied, to say the least. We endured yet another month of lockdown – albeit with the hope of the impending lockdown – so comfort has continued to be high on the agenda: mattresses, mattress toppers and pillows were all very popular investments this month.

Lingerie was another big seller, no doubt thanks to Valentine’s Day – Agent Provocateur and Bluebella were the most popular websites to visit for luxury silk and lace attire, with more affordable purchases from Boux Avenue also seeing an increase.

Wardrobe-wise, the North Face puffer jacket that you’ve been seeing everywhere reigned supreme – no matter what colour you opted for, it’ll be the perfect investment to keep you cosy during this new cold snap.

But even as the chill takes hold again, it seems many of our readers are getting their gardens summer ready, with an impressively affordable chiminea popping up in our most coveted products list too.

Here are the top buys that we’ve seen spiking throughout February, but that will serve you well for many months and years to come – whatever you’re in the market for, you’ll likely find plenty of inspiration below.

You can trust our independent reviews. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections. This revenue helps us to fund journalism across The Independent.

Emma original mattress: From £429, Emmamattress.com

(Emma Mattress)

The Emma mattress is the best buy in our mattress round-up, and for good reason: our reviewer says that it’s instantly more comfortable than any of the other “bed-in-a-box” buys, and it’s a great all-rounder that ticks basically all of the boxes for support and upkeep simultaneously. With all of the perks of the product plus a very generous returns policy, it’s no surprise it’s our most purchased mattress this month.

The North Face nuptse 1996 down jacket: £250, Thenorthface.co.uk

(The North Face)

At the end of January, North Face’s nuptse jacket was named “the hottest product in the world” – and according to our reviewer, it really lives up to the hype, with its design hailed as “a piece of history” (and on a practical level, it’s “supremely warm”). If you already own and love the jacket, check out the equally snug North Face thermoball slippers

Spotlight oral care teeth whitening system: £39.95, Beautybay.com

(Beauty Bay)

Maybe it’s seeing our own reflection staring back at us on countless Zoom calls, maybe it’s the increase in coffee and red wine intake during the last few months (just us?) but either way, it seems like a lot of our readers would like their teeth a couple of shades whiter. This Spotlight set is our best buy for teeth whitening kits, with our reviewer saying: “After a full fortnight’s use, we barely recognised our smile.”

Jovs Venus pro: £269, Currentbody.com

(Current Body)

Also on the personal grooming front, there was a surge in interest in this IPL hair removal machine, which our reviewer loved for its elegant design and entirely painless process. There’s currently a promotion running on Current Body which allows you to pick it up for £269, rather than the £299 RRP.
